Schrecken aka David Schweighart has been haunting the Viennese musical landscape since about 2005 - in the most diverse constellations: As a drummer for Voodoo Jürgens, Shrack!, The Gore Gore Boys and Das Trojanische Pferd, as well as a member of the songwriter collective Loose Lips Sink Ships.
Here Schweighart undertakes a surgically precise examination of the art of songwriting, one could say he distils the essence of good pop songs. References are not hidden, but rather dissected in a highly respectful manner. Pop is also always an art of copying - Schrecken and Bernhard Bauch celebrate this copying process in several ways and transform them into something else. What emerges is a floating, heterogeneous tonal picture, which again and again is able to ignite an unheard-of glow, as it is reserved for outstanding song arrangements. Pop music is beaten with its own weapons and dissolved in an extravagant way.
Classical band instruments are extended by percussions and electronics with an attractive sound. Schweighart's idiosyncratic voice lies above all this - but in its fragility this one also has something very special about it, something that is not always so easy to find as if it demands to reach even more than just the poor ear.
